Tips on Planning a Backyard Homeschooling Camping Trip

Having a back yard camp out with your kids and other homeschoolers in your area can certainly be a lot of fun

One thing that you are sure to find online is a large amount of camping checklists. When you are in the planning process you can send out invitations to your child's homeschooling friends. Remember that you want to make your kids camping trip an enjoyable one, even if it is only in the backyard. Below you will find some of the must have items that should be on every camping list. By teaching them the different items they need for camping and helping them gather them together you will be helping your child to learn the basics of camping. It will also be a good lesson for the other children as well.

The first thing on the list is to prepare your yard for the backyard camping trip. If you have a family tent, you can use this tent for the parents, and have the kids use their smaller tents. If you and the other parents don't have the money for individual tents, you can instead have each family bring whatever tent they have. Kids tents are not that expensive, and will a little bit of planning many will have no problem saving up. When shopping for a tent one thing to keep in mind is than your kids will get bigger so you will want a tent they can grow in. I have found it best to get a tent that is good year round if you plan on going camping several times during the year in the yard. Of course if the weather is really bad you can always head back in the house. I would recommend that you have space ready in your house for the kids just in case you have to move the sleeping bags indoors. Next on the list are mattress pads or cots. If you don't want to spend the money on mattress pads than you will want to bring some thick blankets that your child can put their sleeping bags on. Sleeping bags of course are next on the list. If the kids get warm they can easily leave the bags open and jut place a light sheet on top of them. Sheets are also items you should have on the list. You will also want to bring along your kids pillows which will make them feel comfortable and relaxed when sleeping.

Next on the list are the clothing that all of you will need. You will need hiking boots, sneakers, shower shoes, shorts, shirts, hats, tall socks, swim suits, wash cloths, and towels. Even though you will be in the backyard you will still want to make sure that you have these items. It will help to add to the entire camping experience. You will need these items for each child. The type of clothing that you bring will vary depending on the time of year that you go on vacation. If you go during the summer months you will want to have lighter clothing. You if you plan on hiking you will want to make sure you bring a pair of light pants that you can wear. Next on the list should be a dirty laundry bag. You can keep this bag in the car so that you don't crowd out the tent. A roll of environmentally toilet paper is a must. You may want to bring two rolls depending on how many children you have. Plenty of water is also a must. I would recommend a case of water and some water bottles that can be stored in your car or tent and used as needed. Batteries and a first aid kit should also be on your list. With kids someone is bound to get hurt. I have found it best to visit your local Wal-Mart store and pick up a first aid kit that is made for camping trips. This kit will have everything that you need when camping. Insect repellent, sunscreen, and raingear should also be included in your must have items. Of course you don't want to forget your kid's games and kits that will let them collect items as they go explore. This is also a good time to teach a few first aid lessons to the kids. Try to come up with a list of fun games that are also educational. Remember there is nothing wrong with learning and having fun.
