How to Plan a Homeschool Coop Camping Trip

When it comes to trying to think of some fun activities with your home school coop, it can certainly be a challenge.

The first items on the list can easily be found in a repacked first aid kit. You can find these first aid kits at any Wal-Mart or Target store. These two stores happen to have some very nice kits that include most of what you need. Before you actually purchase your kit you will want to read the label to make sure that everything you need is included. A good project leading up to the trip is to have the students make up a list of necessary supplies. If the kids are old enough you can have them do a bit of research to see what supplies they need.

Here are some basic items that your kit should contain, antiseptic wipes, sterile gauze pads, cotton swabs, tweezers, scissors, bee sting kit, bug repellent, adhesive tape, bandages, sterile compress, Ipecac, blanket, ant acids, antibiotic cream, aspirin, hydrogen peroxide, ace bandage, burn ointment, cold pack, latex gloves, thermometer, and a manual. There are several kits that do contain these items but are sometimes only found during the camping season. If you find a first aid kit that has most of these things but not all you can always pick up the rest of them. In addition to the items in the first aid kit there are some other things that you will need just in case.

I would highly recommend that you bring antibiotic soap along to keep the kids clean and germ free. To teach cleanness on a campsite you can have a special health lesson. Go over with all of the kids in the coop how to keep clean on the campsite. You will also want to get some poison ivy cream as well. Teach children how to identify poison ivy leaves as well. You never know when your kids may accidentally wonder into a patch of it, and you want to be able to make them comfortable quickly. I would also recommend that you bring along some sunburn ointment. Even if you plan on making sure that everyone puts on suntan lotion you will want to bring some along just in case. A snake bite kit should also be on your list. You may be going to an area that has not reported a lot of snake bite incidents but better to be safe than sorry. Now it seems that animals are popping up all over the place in areas where they usually are not. Last but not least is a simple eye wash. Kids tend to often get things in their eyes when they are out camping so an eye wash will certainly come in hand. There you have your basic camping safety list. With the items listed above you should be prepared for just about anything on your homeschool coop camping trip. Remember to take time to incorporate the items mentioned above into your lesson plan. You will also find plenty of free worksheets online that will help with preparing your students for their special camping trip.
